Stockholm, Sweden (AHN) – Swedish police have released a Pakistani-born Canadian after keeping him in custody for two days after a report of a bomb aboard a plane.

Airport authorities arrested the man on Saturday on suspicion of plotting to blow up a Pakistani-bound aircraft at Stockholm’s Arlanda airport.

A bomb threat forced the Boeing 777 Pakistan International Airlines plane to make an emergency landing after an unidentified woman called Canadian police that a man may be carrying explosives on the plane.

The police immediately evacuated passengers and arrested the suspect for interrogation. Stockholm police spokesman Janne Hedlund said they released the suspect since no explosives were discovered in his baggage and he left for Karachi with other passengers.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police said that an investigation was launched to find out whether the incident was a “terrorism hoax.”
