John Nestor – AHN Sports Correspondent
Boston, MA, United States (AHN Sports) – After a strong start, television ratings for the Stanley Cup took a dive for Game 2. Game 2 drew 3.37 million viewers and a 1.2 rating among Adults 18-49. That’s down a whopping 43% from Game 2 of the 2010 Stanley Cup Final. One of the main problems is that last year’s final featured Chicago and Philadelphia, big television markest both in the United States. Last year’s Game 2 was on a Monday and drew nearly 6 million viewers. Game 2′s rating for the Boston Bruins’ overtime loss at Vancouver was also down 27% from Game 1 of this series, which drew 4.56 million viewers on Wednesday. Migrant group urges Manila to ready evacuation of Filipinos in Kuwait

Windsor Genova – AHN News News Writer
Manila, Philippines (AHN) – A migrants group urged the Philippine government to prepare the evacuation of Filipino workers in Kuwait in case a political turmoil erupts in the emirate similar to what is happening in Libya, Syria and Yemen. Migrante-Middle East spokesman John Leonard Monterona said the evacuation plan must be set early because it takes time to process the repatriation of thousands of Filipino workers in Kuwait. There are about 50,000 Filipinos working in Kuwait half of whom are household helpers, according to Monterona. From the experience of the Philippine embassies in Syria and Yemen, the permission of employers to let workers leave must be sought to obtain exit clearance, which is required by the government before foreign workers can leave the country. Coordination with airlines and government agencies is also required to arrange the travel papers of Filipinos [...] Continue Reading…

Linda Young – AHN News Writer
Washington, D.C., United States (AHN) – The latest US employment report revealed a major slowdown in the number of jobs created in May with the economy only adding 54,000 jobs to payrolls, not even enough to keep up with growth in the workforce. It was a sharp contrast to April when the economy added 232,000 jobs added to payrolls, according to the US Department of Labor report released Friday. However, even the April figures were not much help in bringing down the high unemployment rates created by the recession that officially ended in June 2009. That is because economists say the nation needs to create around 200,000 jobs each month just to keep up with new people entering the labor force for the first time. But job creation has not picked up and new graduates are having a trouble getting their first job. To put [...] Continue Reading…

The only thing that will stop the postal workers from walking off the job is if Canada Post offers the union a new agreement by midnight of Thursday. But CUPW President Bob Tyre doubted if the agency would make a good offer sufficient to avert a strike. However, the strike at Winnipeg will run for only 24 hours. Work is expected to resume Friday midnight to deal with mail backlogs caused by the industrial action. The union picked Winnipeg as the first target of the rotating strikes because the new mail processing machines which were the source of problems for the union were first installed in the Manitoba city’s postal plant.
