London, England, United Kingdom (AHN) – Employees in Britain’s public sector should brace for the worst as a document unwittingly exposed by Chief Secretary to the Treasury Danny Alexander on Tuesday projected the loss of 500,000 jobs by 2014.

The confidential briefing papers, publicly revealed when Alexander was photographed while reading the document, confirmed speculations of massive job cuts. Chancellor George Osborne will disclose more details of the $120 billion (80 billion pounds) coalition government cuts in a spending review Wednesday.

The spending cuts, spread over the next four years, will also result in public sector employees suffering a two-year pay freeze and having to pay higher pension contributions beginning 2011. However, those who would be laid off would receive redundancy pay.

Osborne is also expected to announce the retirement age for public workers would be hiked to 66 in 2016, 10 years ahead of previous plans.

The Ministry of Justice, the Department of Communities and Local Government, and the Culture Department will suffer 30 percent budget cuts to help Britain reduce its record budget deficit.
